Gantry Crane

Gantry Crane

A gantry crane is slightly different from a bridge crane. The general premise is the same, but the operation is different. Gantry cranes have a bridge that is supported by two a-frame rigid steel legs that rest on the floor. The legs are commonly equipped with casters so crane can be moved to different parts of a building. Some gantry cranes ride along a track installed on the floor, or use a V-groove caster to keep movement in a straight line.

Gantry cranes are usually less expensive than an overhead bridge crane.

Jib Crane

Jib Crane

Jib Cranes are popular in areas of the facility that require a very specific lift application. Although some light capacity cranes can be made portable, jib cranes are usually permanently installed over a work station area. They can be mounted to the floor, or wall hung from an approved building column. There are various types of jib cranes to fit different applications and headroom requirements. For high capacity lifts, jibs can be motorized for precision placements.

Mast type jib cranes can offer a full 360 degree coverage of the work area, whereas a wall hung jib can only provide 180 degrees of boom rotation.

Freestanding Crane

Free Standing Cranes, also known as Workstation Cranes, are often utilized in work cell applications. The enclosed track features a 2 degree taper that helps to center the trolley wheels in the track, and prevents the buildup of dirt and debris. This allows for smooth, effortless movement of end trucks and trolleys. Consequently, enclosed track cranes are up to three times easier to move than traditional bridge cranes.

Monorail Crane

Monorail Crane

Monorail cranes are often specialized for specific lifting applications within a factory. Unlike the overhead bridge crane, a monorail works on only 2 axis’; up and down, and forward and backward along the path of the rail. For this reason, monorail’s are commonly found to be integrated into assembly lines for material transport. Unlike bridge cranes, a great advantage of monorail cranes is their ability to bend and travel around curves.

Overhead Traveling Bridge Crane

This style bridge crane operates on an elevated runway system along the length of a building. It is available in both single and double girder bridge arrangement.  Additionally, bridge cranes operate on three axis’ of hook movement. This provides for the flexibility required to position and place loads very gently.

Overhead bridge cranes of this type require custom fabrication. Call us to start the conversation, 800-724-4052.
