How to select a chain hoist

What will you demand of your new hoist?

Take a moment to review the Hoist Duty Classification drop down menu to the right, and get an understanding of what kind of hoist your application requires.

Purchasing an H5 severe duty hoist when all you need is an H1 standby duty, can be a very costly mistake. The same can be said for purchasing an H2 light duty hoist when your application really calls for an H4 heavy duty hoist.

It's important to know what you're buying, and what you can expect from it. If you have any trouble determining the proper classification for your application, please give us a call at 800-724-4052.

Be sure to look for the Hoist Duty Classification in the description for the hoists listed below.

H1 - Hoist Class | Infrequent or Standby Duty

The H1 hoist class designation is reserved for hoists used in infrequent or standby applications. Commonly found in Powerhouse and Utilities applications, H1 hoists are used primarily to install and service heavy equipment, where loads frequently approach hoist capacity, with periods of utilization being infrequent and widely scattered. Maximum on time = 8 min/hr. Maximum Starts = 75/hr

The H2 hoist class designation is reserved for hoists used in light duty applications. Commonly found in light machine and fabrication shops, H2 hoists are primarily used in shops where loads and use are randomly distributed, with capacity loads handled infrequently. Total running time does not exceed 10-15% of the work period. Maximum on time = 8 min/hr. Maximum Starts = 75/hr

The H3 hoist class designation is reserved for hoists used in standard duty applications. Commonly used in general machine shops, fabrication shops, assembly, storage, and warehousing. H3 hoists are primarily used in shops where loads and use are randomly distributed, and used more frequently than an H1 or H2 hoist. Total running time does not exceed 15-25% of the work period. Maximum on time = 15 min/hr. Maximum Starts = 150/hr

The H4 hoist class designation is reserved for hoists used in heavy duty applications. Commonly found in high volume handling applications, H4 hoists are used in steel warehouses, machine shops, fabricating plants, mills, and foundries to name a few. Total running time typically approaches 50% of the work period. Maximum on time = 30 min/hr. Maximum Starts = 300/hr

The H5 hoist class designation is reserved for hoists used in severe duty applications. Commonly found in applications around bulk handling of material in combination with buckets, magnets, or other heavy attachments. Equipment is often cab operated.  Total running time approaches continuous operation. User must specify exact details of operation, including weight of attachments. Maximum on time = Up to continuous. Maximum Starts = 600/hr
